China steel replacement requires carbon emissions reduction
The construction of new steel capacity in China is facing growing restrictions. New rules in Shandong Province suggest that, in addition to rules to reduce net capacity, replacement projects will now require additional emissions reduction rules.
The new Shandong rules cover all new projects in high-energy-consuming and high-emission industries, and will be implemented on a trial basis until June 2022, before a final roll-out in July.
