Chinese rebar declines on pent-up demand
China's construction steel market gradually turned sluggish last week, with weak demand forcing supply-side reductions, Kallanish notes.
In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 20mm HRB400 rebar was trading at CNY 4,020-4,040/tonne ($589-592/t), down CNY 40/t on-week. The October rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed at CNY 3,929/t, down by CNY 112/t compared with Thursday and CNY 221/t from the previous Friday.
