China's domestic coke price rebound encounters resistance
China's domestic coke companies encountered strong resistance in the first price increase after several rounds of reduction. They have not succeeded as of Monday, Kallanish notes.
Due to slumping steel prices, steelmakers started to drag down coke prices to secure their own profit margins. As coking companies still saw positive margins during the period because of lower-priced coking coal, both sides agreed on price cuts.
