China reinstates tax on coking coal imports

China's State Council Tariff Commission will reinstate a 3% tax on coking coal imported from most favoured nations (MFN) from 1 January 2024. Australia and ASEAN are exempted since both have free trade agreements with China. The Commission said in April 2022 it would put no tariffs on coking coal imports between 1 May 2022 and 31 March 2023, and then extended this policy in March to 31 December 2023.
