China approves blast furnace replacement despite decarbonisation trend
China approved iron or steel capacity replacement projects of 11 companies in the first half of the year, showing a preference for electric arc furnaces (EAFs) over converters. Although this is in line with moves to reduce carbon emissions from the industry, blast furnace replacement projects continue to be confirmed.
