China lifts export controls on graphite for electrodes

China’s Ministry of Commerce has decided to lift export controls on some graphite products starting from 1 December 2023, Kallanish notes. The graphite materials involved are mainly used in the basic industries of the national economy, such as electrodes in electric arc furnaces for smelting crude steel. China had previously imposed export controls according to regulations on export of nuclear dual-use items.
