China announces stricter steel capacity replacement policy
On 8 January China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued an update of the capacity replacement methodologies for the steel, cement and glass sectors, effective 1 January.
In environmentally sensitive areas closed capacity must still be 125% of any new capacity commissioned, but other areas are also no longer allowed to restart as much capacity as they have shut down, Kallanish notes.
