China bans 2017 North Korea coal imports
China's Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) has announced a ban on imports of North Korean coal over 19 February-31 December 2017 in order to comply with new United Nations sanctions. This includes cargoes that have applied for but not yet received customs clearance.
North Korea supplies a large volume of coking coal to China, where restrictions on coal output are already creating uncertainty over supply this year, Kallanish notes.
