Chile’s first-half steel consumption drops, outlook negative
Chilean steel consumption fell year-on-year in the first six months, says the national steel institute ICHA. Domestic demand is seen decreasing in 2023-2024.
The market is expected to absorb 2.26 million tonnes in 2023. If ICHA’s outlook is confirmed, it would mean a 0.8% fall on-year, Kallanish notes. In 2024, Chile’s apparent steel consumption could slip to 2.25mt, the institute estimates.
