Chile’s 2022 steel consumption drops, outlook positive

Chilean apparent steel consumption fell almost 30.4% or 998,000 tonnes year-on-year to 2.28 million tonnes in 2022, says national steel institute ICHA. This was the largest contraction in the last five years and was caused by the current economic recession facing the country, the institute says in its latest report monitored by Kallanish.
