British Steel failure could mean higher-than-expected job losses
Should the UK government allow British Steel to fail, the number of job losses would be far above those already envisaged, the trade union GMB tells Kallanish.
As well as the nearly 4,238 direct positions reported by the steelmaker in its latest annual accounts (see Kallanish 23 May), the trade union estimates that there would be a further 28,395 indirect jobs at risk. This would give an under-threat total of 32,633 jobs.
