Brazil`s exports of semi-finished products increased in February, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (Mdic) figures monitored by Kallanish.

The country exported 531,000 tonnes or 1.3% more y-o-y. This volume was nevertheless -36.9% lower than the total of 841,000t in January. During the first two months, semis’ shipments were -12.3% lower than in the January-February period of 2019 at 1,371,959t.

The export value of these fell by -28.9% over the corresponding period of last year to $551.8 million. According to Mdic, the average semi-finished export value in the first two months was $400/tonne fob, a -20.0% fall y-o-y.

The main destination for the country’s semi-finished products was the United States, which took 63% of Brazil’s total semis’ exports, followed by Canada and Turkey, with 8.4% and 8.7% shares, respectively.
