Bayi Steel uses decarburised gas for ironmaking
The hydrogen-enriched blast furnace at Xinjiang Bayi Iron & Steel, Baowu’s low-carbon metallurgical experimental platform, has realised the use of decarbonised waste gas for iron production. It claims this is the first blast furnace to do so globally, Kallanish notes.
The fuel ratio of ironmaking is reduced by 45kg per tonne of iron produced. This is equivalent to around a 10% reduction of coal use compared to international advanced levels.
