Chinas automotive steel demand falling y-o-y for first time since 2013
China produced 2.08 million automobiles in April, down -8.93% from March and up just 0.59% year-on-year, the lowest growth since February 2013, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). The production mix likely means automotive steel demand is now down year-on-year for the first time in two years, a worrying sign for one of the last growth sectors for Chinese steel demand, Kallanish notes.
