ATA truck tonnage rises again
US for-hire truck tonnage increased 0.7% from April to May, according to the American Trucking Association.
For-hire tonnage serves as a bellwether for industrial health, as more than 70% of all domestic cargo is carried by truck, Kallanish notes.
Year-to-date, tonnage is up 8% through May - compared with just 3.8% in 2017.
