Asian demand lifts Indian billet exports
Indian semi-finished product exports, the majority of which were mild steel billet, surged 29% on-year in May to 168,397 tonnes thanks to demand from Asia, according to Indian commerce ministry data monitored by Kallanish.
Nepalese intake surged 47% to 88,140t, while the Philippines and Thailand took in 30,289t and 20,519t respectively versus zero each in May 2017. Sri Lanka took in 9,532t versus zero last year.
