The Argentine government has decided to extend the restrictions imposed on scrap exports for an additional year due to "... structural reasons" as from 27 October. Argentina lacks a fluid supply of these inputs, according to Decree 848/2017, published in the Official Gazette and monitored by Kallanish.

“The companies that process these goods saw their production affected. The steel industry is affected, as a consequence of the lack of scrap available and it is necessary to re-establish the measure in order to maintain consistent availability of raw material for domestic industry," the government says in the decree.

The restricted products are classified under HC codes 7204.10.00, 7204.21.00, 7204.29.00, 7204.30.00, 7204.41.00, 7204.49.00, 7204.50.00, 7404.00.00 and 7602.00.00.

The Argentine authorities had previously imposed restrictions on scrap exports during 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
