Arch to shift coal strategy in West Virginia
US metallurgical coal producer Arch Coal has ended longwall operations at its West Virginia Mountain Laurel mine three months ahead of schedule to shift production to a deeper-diving room-and-pillar system.
This will nick the company’s output for the fourth quarter but should boost the mine’s total output in the future, Kallanish understands.
