AMSA foresees stable first-half demand, continued rand volatility
ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) says domestic steel demand and exports are likely to remain stable in the first half of 2019. Volatility in the rand/US dollar exchange rate will meanwhile continue to have an impact on the steelmaker’s results.
AMSA’s steel sales increased 5% on-year in 2018 to 4.49 million tonnes, driven by a 1% rise in local sales to 3.34mt and a 21% jump in exports to 1.15mt. Capacity utilisation increased to 84% from 81%. Commer…
