Algoma acquires power station
Canadian steel producer Algoma has acquired a 55-megawatt heat and power plant to augment its Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, steelworks’ power needs, Kallanish learns.
The former Lake Superior Power Plant joins several planned power projects associated with the mill, including a 50MW solar farm, a 13MW top gas recovery unit and an 8MW steam turbine. The ultimate goal, says Algoma ceo Kalvan Ghosh, is near self-sufficiency.
