Chinas airport drive could consume 5mt of steel in 2015
China’s spending on airport construction could accelerate this year to around CNY 500 billion ($80.5 billion), according to recent comments by China Civil Aviation secretary Li Jiaxiang. If the new spending target is reached, steel consumption by the sector could be around 2 million tonnes higher than previous forecasts by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), Kallanish notes.
