Baosteel's Zhanjiang project tilts first BOF
China’s Baosteel has begun testing the first basic oxygen converter at its Zhanjiang greenfield steelworks in southern Guangdong province. Steelmaking is scheduled to begin in early September, Kallanish notes.
The first 250-tonne converter was tilted for the first time on 12 July, Baosteel says. The site will initially house two 350-t converters which are the largest in China, with a capacity of around 3.5 million tonnes/year of crude steel. …
