Steel exports in US trend lower as Canadian market suffers
US steel exports rose 3% from a recent low in April of 766,000 tonnes to 789,341 tonnes in May. Exports remain below year-ago levels, however, with May tonnages -16% lower than in the same month in 2014. Monthly shipments to Nafta trading partners Canada and Mexico were flat and down -5%, respectively, while exports to the Dominican Republic increased sizably.
