US steel imports decline for fifth straight month
US steel imports are likely to have declined for the fifth consecutive month in June. The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reports that June import permit applications of 3,065,000 tons were -13% lower than May’s permit tons of 3,522,000 tons. They were also -10% lower than May’s final import tally of 3,398,000 tons. Imports hit a recent high of 4,393,500 tons in January 2015.
