US Steel reverses decision to idle Granite City works
US Steel will not shut down its Granite City Works as previously planned. The decision was made based on current business conditions, a company spokeswoman tells Kallanish.
The company informed local lawmakers of its decision to continue operating one blast furnace at the Illinois operation, keeping the vast majority of workers on the job. The other furnace will remain offline temporarily due to the installation of a new caster.
