US Steel extends Minntac mine lifespan by 16 years

US Steel says in a statement sent to Kallanish that federal permits have been granted to allow it to expand its Minntac taconite mining operation located in Mount Iron, Minnesota. The mine extension project received the necessary state permits earlier this year. As a result of the extension, Minntac will be expanded by 483 acres, extending the life of the mine by 16 years and ensuring the long-term competitiveness of the facility, the steelmaker says.
