Turkish scrap imports plummet in Dec, narrower scrap-rebar spread squeezes mill margins

Turkish imports of scrap declined -32% year-on-year in December to 1.29 million tonnes, Kallanish notes from the latest Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data. The average price of these imports was $336/tonne cfr Turkey, down from $380. The largest supplier of scrap in December was the US with 258,000t, despite a -25% decline on the year-earlier month.
