Sumitomo turns to New Caledonia for nickel supply

Japan’s Sumitomo Metal Mining (SMM) plans to source 79% of its nickel ore from French-owned New Caledonia in the year ending March 2016, down from 70% the previous year. The remainder will come from the Philippines, according to president Yoshiaki Nakazato.
