Japan's Shinkasai cuts EAF capacity
Japan’s Shinkasai Steel says it will idle a 40-tonne EAF at its Sakai plant on 1 April. The move will almost halve the company’s steelmaking capacity and reduce the variety of billet it can produce, Kallanish notes.
Shinkasai, a producer of flat bar, says the anticipated increase in industrial electricity prices are partly to blame for the closure. Kansai Electric Power is expected to raise its prices in April.
