Philippines targets steel smugglers
The Philippines Bureau of Customs has filed charges of smuggling against five officials and the customs broker of a steel importing firm, Stellent Corp., it announced Monday. The move comes as the Philippines tightens controls on steel imports in order to combat the practice of mislabelling steel products to circumvent taxes, Kallanish notes.
