Natural gas replaces coal as top US powergen source
In April 2015 natural gas overcame coal as the US’s No 1 source of power generation – the first time the fossil fuel duo have switched places since records began.
In April, roughly 31% of electric power generation came from natural gas, while coal accounted for 30%, according to data reported by SNL Energy. It is a huge difference in just five years. In April 2010, coal accounted for 44% of the power generation mix, and natural gas just 22%.
