NLMK to increase PCI use from 40% to 90%
NLMK plans to build a second pulverized coal injection (PCI) unit at its Lipetsk steelworks. When the project is complete by end-2017 the technology will be used at over 90% of the company’s blast furnaces.
PCI currently covers 40%, being in use at NLMK’s blast furnaces No.5 and No.4. The former has a pig iron capacity of 3 million tonnes/year and the latter 2m t/y, the company tells Kallanish.
