Gulf Mining Materials launches new ferrochrome smelter, seeks power to double capacity
Oman’s main chrome ore miner Gulf Mining Materials Company has commenced production at its new ferrochrome smelter in Sohar, the home of Jindal Shadeed and Vale’s Omani iron ore pelletising plant.
The company has brought on line one 16,500 KVA furnace to give it a ferrochrome production capacity of around 25,000 tonnes/year. This will be doubled once a second furnace is commissioned; however, the firm is currently awaiting electricity supply. The…
