Chinese flat steel producers are more resilient to demand downturn: Baosteel
China’s steel demand is entering a “winter” that could last 3-5 years, according to Dai Zhihao, general manager of Baosteel. The downturn in demand will mostly affect long product producers and he claims and high-value flats producers should be able to weather the storm. Few Chinese flat steel producers hold the position that Baosteel enjoys however and most will also struggle in the medium term, Kallanish notes.
