BDI tops 1,000 as Capesize rates double
The Baltic dry Index hit 1,048 on Friday after returning over 1,000 on Thursday for the first time since 2014. The recovery in the index comes as capsize freight rates have doubled from lows earlier in the year, Kallanish notes.
Capesize daily rate hit around $12,693/day last Thursday, up 10.6% from a month earlier. Panamax and Supramax rates have also increased by smaller percentages, analysts say.
