Asean steel demand grows but key countries struggle
Revised steel consumption data from the Southeast Asia Iron and Steel Institute (Seasi) show rapid steel demand growth in the region in 2014. Declining demand in Thailand and stagnation in Indonesia and Malaysia were cause for concern however and Seaisi was forced to revise its data downwards, Kallanish notes.
Overall steel consumption in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam was up a solid 4.4% in 2014 to 65.9 million tonnes. The…
