Asean remains key pivot in global trade
Asean steel production was up 12.4% to 20.4 million tonnes in 2014 despite growing imports from China, according to revised data from the Southeast Asia Iron and Steel Institute (Seaisi). The region’s key role in the global steel trade had a much larger impact on the rest of the world than other steelmaking regions with similar capacities, Kallanish notes.
