Arrium sees mining fall on weak prices, but signals improving steel demand
Australia’s Arrium has posted a net loss after tax for the first six months of its 2015 financial year. The steel and mining conglomerate says in a report monitored by Kallanish that its mining business took a major hit during the period. Arrium’s steel operations meanwhile performed better, assisted by exchange rate benefits and increasing Australian construction activity. Net profits were negatively affected by asset impairment.
