ASEAN demand growth slows, troubled by exports
Apparent steel demand in the Asean nations grew around 6% to 67 million tonnes in 2014, according to the South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (Seaisi). However, growth is down from 2013 and was outpaced by a significant growth in imports, especially from China, Kallanish notes.
Vietnamese steel demand continued to surge, growing 20% in 2014 to over 14mt. Philippine demand grew 10% to almost 7.4mt, while Indonesian demand was up 6% to around 13.…
