For-hire truck tonnage drops in April
US for-hire truck tonnage fell again in April, though the overall outlook for 2017 remains positive, according to the American Trucking Association.
For-hire truck tonnage fell by -2.5% in April, on the heels of a -1.1% decline in March. Year-to-date tonnage is off by about -0.3%.
Trucking serves as a bellwether for the overall health of the US economy, as more than 70% of domestic freight is carried by truck, Kallanish notes.
