Vale Base Metals starts new Canadian nickel, copper mine
Mining giant Vale Base Metals has signed an agreement to start operations at the Stobie Mine open pit in the state of Ontario, Canada.
It is part of Vale’s Sudbury complex, which produced 13,900 tonnes of copper and 3,100 tonnes of nickel in the first quarter of this year.
The company is planning to start another two projects at the complex, Copper Cliff mine and Copper Cliff pit, and add a fifth phase to the Creighton mine to extend its life.
