UK confirms 2040 ban on petrol, diesel HGVs
The UK government confirmed on Wednesday that all new heavy good vehicles (HGVs) on its roads will be zero-emission by 2040, Kallanish reports.
The pledge follows the phase out for petrol and diesel cars and vans in 2030. It makes the UK the first country in the world to commit to ban new sales of all road internal combustion engines by 2040. The phase out deadline for HGVs weighing 26 tonnes and under is earlier, in 2035.
