Spain’s Irizar e-mobility company is continuing its European expansion and its electromobility solutions are arriving in Bulgaria, the enterprise says.

Specifically, they are arriving in the seaport of Burgas, which for the first time includes 44 bus zero-emission electric buses in its fleet. It is the first electromobility project in that city and one of the largest in Bulgaria to date, Irizar claims.

The delivery of the first units is expected to be made in September 2021, Kallanish notes.

Burgasbus will be in charge of operating the buses. They are a Bulgarian public transport operator that has more than 130 vehicles in their fleet. The vehicles will be equipped with Irizar lithium-ion batteries.

Irizar e-mobility will also provide 44 interoperable ECI-100 chargers by its Jema Energy company. The chargers have a 100 kilowatt smart-charging system that will charge the vehicles in three hours using a Combo 2 charging outlet.

Earlier, the global technology company ABB expanded the charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) in Bulgaria with the first 10 120 kW chargers.

Bulgaria is currently building 199 charging stations for EVs in the country with funding from the EU. About 123 of the stations have already been implemented and are functioning. Total investment amounts to BGN 6.4 million ($4m). The country has a total of about 300 charging station.

The number of EVs in Bulgaria increased in 2020 by 63% on-year to 1,933 units, according to data from the Traffic Police. The newly registered electric cars amount to 800. The number of hybrid models has increased from 2,989 to 11,867 units last year, which is up by 41%.
