SoCalGas to help fund hydrogen fuel cell switcher rail locomotive
Southern California Gas (SoCalGas) says it is working with the Sierra Northern Railway and other partners to develop and test a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell engine on a railroad switcher locomotive, Kallanish reports.
The parties involved have signed an agreement to fund the project that got $4 million last March from the California Energy Commission. SoCalGAS is providing an additional $500,000 to advance the research.
