RARE EARTH: DOE awards $3m to MP Materials for Kentucky coal-waste project
California-based MP Materials is getting a $3 million award from the US Department of Energy to complete a feasibility study in cooperation with the University of Kentucky on a system to produce rare earth oxides and other critical minerals recovered from coal by-products.
The project is enabled by a DOE-exercised option of a previous MP Materials and UK project, Kallanish reports.
