NICKEL, COPPER, COBALT: Lockheed Martin seeks deep-sea mining extension
Lockheed Martin is seeking federal approval to extend two licenses to mine polymetallic nodules from the ocean floor in the Pacific Ocean, Kallanish reports.
The licenses, originally issued in 1984, are scheduled to expire on 2 June, 2022. Lockheed Martin is seeking to extend the licenses to 2027 for exploratory mining of nickel, copper, cobalt and manganese in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone between Mexico and Hawaii.
