NICKEL, COBALT: Efforts underway to recover mining robot in Pacific Ocean
Recovery efforts are underway to recover a 25-tonne deep-sea mining robot from the floor of the Pacific Ocean, Kallanish reports.
Belgian-based Global Sea Mineral Resources reports that the robot, Patania II, was lost during trials in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in 4 kilometres of water. It says a lifting point connecting the robot and the Rainbow Warrior surface ship via a 5-km cable separated and the robot descended to the seabed, Reuters says.
