Microsoft eyes hydrogen as diesel replacement for data centres
Microsoft has successfully completed a 48-hour power trial for hydrogen fuel cells in a move the company hopes will one day replace back-up diesel generators, Kallanish reports.
Although diesel fuel only makes up about 1% of the company’s annual emissions, replacing back-up generators for the company’s data centers with hydrogen fuel cells could provide more flexibility and further its overall goal to be carbon-negative by 2030.
