LITHIUM: Albemarle opens third chemical conversion plant in Chile
US-based Albemarle Corp says it has opened its third chemical conversion plant in northern Chile, Kallanish reports.
The $500 million La Negra III facility located 27 kilometres from Antofagasta is expected to double lithium production and to further reduce the company’s freshwater consumption, the company says. The plant is designed to boost production of battery-grade lithium carbonate from 40,000 tonnes/year to 80,000 t/y, it says.
