Hydro Tasmania picks Lake Cethana for pumped storage project
Hydro Tasmania says it has selected Lake Cethana in northwest Tasmania as its preferred hydro pumped storage site, the first project of its kind for the company on the Australian island, Kallanish reports.
The AUD 900 million ($678.2m) project calls for building a new upper reservoir covering up to 70 hectares that would be connected by a 3,500-metre tunnel to a lower reservoir to produce 600 megawatts of electricity. The system could discharge for up to 11 hours.…
